Safety Glazed

Building Regulations require all glazing that is lower than 800mm above floor level to be Safety Glass.

Where you require safety glass, we use only laminate glass. This is produced by permanently bonding two pieces of glass together with a tough plastic interlayer (polyvinyl butyral) under heat and pressure.

Once bonded together, the sandwich behaves as a single piece. The interlayer is invisible when viewed through the glass and with glass on either side, the finished glass package is indistinguishable from a standard glass package when installed.

One major benefit of laminated glass over toughened glass is that if broken, glass fragments adhere to the plastic interlayer rather than falling free and potentially causing injury, another is that laminated glass can be cut or drilled.

Our safety glass units are made up as shown;
